Web Accessibility Company User1st Raises $3m in Series A Round Led by Cornerstone Venture Partners.
NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) SEPTEMBER 29, 2016
User1st LTD announced it has completed a Series A round led by US-based fund Cornerstone Venture Partners, alongside 500 Startups and other private investors, such as Shaked Ventures and Nissim Barel. Launched in 2014, User1st’s technology enables companies to easily and efficiently ensure that their websites are compliant with the highest web accessibility standards. To date, the company has raised over $5,000,000 in funding, and currently has over 100 enterprise customers, including IKEA, INTEL, ELAL Airlines, F5, the Mexican Government, Georgia Tech University, Master Card Israel and Leumi Bank.
Web accessibility initiatives are gaining momentum in the US and EU across both public and private sectors. In the US, the federal government has passed numerous pieces of legislation requiring websites to be accessible to persons with disabilities, including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) for the airline industry, Section 255 of the Communication Act for telecommunications products and services, and Title II and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In early May 2016, the EU published a draft directive requiring its member states to ensure that their state-run websites and mobile applications are accessible to individuals with disabilities. A number of EU member states have also begun passing their own country-specific web accessibility legislation.
With current accessibility methods, businesses looking to make their websites accessible to individuals with disabilities are finding it difficult given the frequency that content is updated and the rate of development of new technologies. Managing website accessibility compliance is currently a manual process requiring constant auditing and significant allocation of resources. User1st’s solution provides a powerful set of tools to guide corporations through the process of creating an accessibility skin over their website, without altering their existing codebase. Companies can then dynamically monitor their digital compliance in real-time, through the User1st Dashboard, and easily maintain as well as improve their compliance.
“With this round of investment, User1st will further expand its marketing efforts as well as grow operations in the US, bringing accessibility to hundreds of new brands and enterprises and granting access for millions of disabled end users,” says Amihai Miron, CEO of User1st.
“User1st disrupts the status quo and fundamentally changes the way that corporations evaluate and manage their digital compliance,” Cornerstone’s partner Michael Ozechov explained. “With the recent legislation, User1st is now more relevant than ever and is poised to be the key technology as companies look for solutions and tools. We are excited to partner with Amihai and the User1st team, helping millions of people around the globe to access and fully utilize the power of the web.”
“More than 1 billion people in the world have some form of disability,” adds Adam Benayoun, Venture Partner at 500 Startups. “Yet that part of the population is discriminated on a daily basis when it comes to accessing services online. User1st leverages technology to improve the quality of life of 15% of the world population and works toward their social inclusion. We’ve invested in User1st because they are creating a better world,” Benayoun elaborates.
